RESEARCH INTERESTS
I study the psychological and social mechanisms that regulate social behaviours (i.e., conflict and cooperation) within the human family. I combine evolutionary psychology, social psychology, and cognitive psychology. I am particularly interested in kin-detection and the mechanisms of human inbreeding avoidance. Two particularly interesting aspects in this research are the possible effects of genetic conflict within the family and the early interactions between offspring and parents in modulating family functioning.
I am also currently involved in several projects concerning child sexual abuse, pedophilia, and clinical forensic investigations of alleged abuse. In this research area my main focus has been on the assessment of pedophilic sexual interest, the long-term effects of experiencing child sexual abuse, and on using improved and standardized procedures in clinical forensic investigations.
